This event benefits the Associated Churches Food Bank program, Miss Virginia’s Mission House, and the Franciscan Center.  Funds raised are used solely to purchase food to feed those in need.   This year’s walk will be held at Lawton Park on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.  Details on the walk, including sign-up sheets will be available soon.  Watch for details.

  Volunteer and Support Opportunities

    Host a Baby Shower                Donate Baby Items

 Items Needed:

·         New or very gently used clothing and blankets (sizes newborn to 4t )

·         Baby bath tubs, car seats, cribs and mattresses, diaper bags, gates, high chairs, strollers, and swings new or very gently used (but used car seats cannot be accepted for safety reasons)

·         Toiletries and other baby items (baby bottles, bottle brushes, diaper rash ointment, diaper wipes, lotion, nail clippers, powder, shampoo, towels, toys, and baby wash)

 

 The Associated Churches “A Baby’s Closet” is a collaborative effort to improve the lives of Allen County’s disadvantaged infants and toddlers by offering their mothers and fathers incentives to seek prenatal care, keep well-baby and well-child appointments, attend parenting classes, and obtain immunizations.  Contact Teresa Tracey at 422-3528 for more information.

Host a Food Drive                                          

Examples of food donations needed:                         

·         Canned fruits and vegetables        •    Cooking oil

·         Peanut butter                                                       •    Macaroni and cheese                  

·         Boxed meals                                                           •    Hearty soups

·         Instant mashed potatoes                          •    Cereal   

                  

Volunteer to be a Food Sorter            (Call John Lassen at 422-6721 or 437-6016 to schedule)

Individuals and groups are needed to provide:   

·         2 to 4 hours of time                                              •    A little energy (pack food into boxes)

·         A little muscle (light lifting)                               •    A little head muscle (sort food by groups)

 

The Associated Churches Food Bank provides our community over 90,000 meals each month and more than 1 million meals a year.
