Weekday Religious Education - Download Brochure          Kathy Rolf, Director

The Weekday Religious Education program has served third, fourth, and fifth grade children in the Fort Wayne Community Schools for many years, and the past 15 years those in the East Allen County Schools.  Children are released from the school for one-half hour each of twenty-six weeks during the school year by the permission of their parents.  Instruction is held in our mobile classrooms except where there is a church or public building available close to the school.  The "little churches on wheels" are approximately thirty-five feet long by eight feet in width.  They hold fourteen to sixteen desks fashioned from wood and Formica, with a bench seat for two, and a tabletop attached to the wall.  Above each desk on the wall is a Bible rack containing two "Good News" Bibles.  Each trailer is equipped with a television and VCR so educational material can be presented.

Our instruction is non-denominational and covers the basics of faith in third grade, the Old Testament in fourth, and the New Testament in fifth grade.  It is based on understanding the word of God and applying it to our lives, living as an example of God's love, and trying to be more like Jesus every day.  The children learn the scriptural basis for what is right and wrong.  We love our curriculum and welcome any of you to visit a classroom or ask us to visit your meeting.

Approximately 80% of the students in school attend Weekday Religious Education, making our student body close to seven thousand each year.  We are truly blessed to be able to present this opportunity for the children to share their faith, and in many cases to learn about faith for the first time.  Our teachers are trained in the curriculum and meet monthly to prepare together and share ideas and encouragement.  All of our teachers have degrees or college experience. Our teachers are dedicated Christians and this is their ministry.

We are grateful for this chance to make a difference in the lives of these children.  We receive prayer requests each week from the students concerning problems that an adult would be troubled facing.  In view of our present circumstances in America and in the world, the need for this program is greater than ever.
